When a tree has codominant leaders, fighting for apical dominance, the union between the stems is a weak point, prone to failure in wind and under ice/snow load. Installing a "supplemental support cable" between the two stems, built with extra high strength steel cable, securely connected, using industrial strength steel preforms attached to 1/2 inch steel eye bolts that are drilled through both trunks that are fastened with large nuts and washers, helps the trunks to sway in unison in the wind and support each other under load decreasing the risk of failure. in the event that the union does fail the cable can help suspend the lead and possibly prevent damage or injury.
